Spanish & Surf Program

Playa Dominical in Costa Rica is world famous for its incredible year round surf and has become a premier surfing destination. Costa Rica is also one of the most popular destinations in Latin America for quality Spanish language programs. The location of the AEC campus in Dominical has made it possible to combine the best of these two Costa Rican attractions. AEC students will learn Spanish in the morning and then are free to surf in the afternoons and weekends. The 9am AEC class starting time also makes surfing “dawn patrols” common in the mornings so our students can take advantage of the best surfing time of the day. Playa Dominical is considered by surfers the best, most consistant, surfing beach in Central America. While the surf is often flat in the northern Tamarindo region of Costa Rica, there is always surf in Dominical. Dominical is also unique in that areas of the major surfing beach and neighboring beaches have surf conditions ideal for beginning surfers.

The AEC Spanish Immersion Center in Playa Dominical is located on the Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica in a tropical rain forest. The town is very small, only 600 permanent residents. It is surrounded by forest and is more off the beaten path, so surfing is less crowded than most of the other Costa Rican surfing beaches.. The beach in Dominical is right in front of the town and is the most consistently big wave beach in Costa Rica. Year round this beach break is overhead and higher and there is a river mouth that gives both lefts and rights. There are a number of smaller breaks at beaches both north and south of the town. Some of these beaches are: Dominicalito, Hermosa, Matapalo, Uvita and Ventanas.

Playa Dominical Surf Program

The Surf Program can be added to any of the existing Spanish Immersion programs offered at the Playa Dominical campus of AEC.

• The price of the program is $140 /week and consists of 6 days (Monday thru Saturday) of surf board rental and two, two hour surf lessons. The price will be $150/week if you wish to rent a board for Sunday as well.

This is a great program for surfers of all ability levels. Our instructors are all certified lifeguards and work with the local association to keep the beach at Dominical one of the safest in Costa Rica.
